Mothers & Toddlers

Mothers & Toddlers

Little Hands Mother & Toddler Group provides a relaxed informal environment for parents/carers and their children to meet on a regular basis to socialise and make new friends. The Group meets each Wednesday from 9.45am until 11.30am during term time, and welcomes children from birth up to school age (0–5).

Little Hands has been established for 15 years and is a non-profitable group. It is run by mums on a voluntary basis. Our aim is to provide fun and excitement for our babies and toddlers within a warm, friendly and safe environment as well as providing parents and carers with the opportunity to meet for friendship and support. Each session is loosely structured so as to enable free play when children are actively encouraged to explore, to learn and to interact with others using a good range of toys and equipment, but also includes creative activities such as arts and crafts, singing and story time and messy play. Healthy snacks are provided for the children.

The cost of each session is £1 per family. This money goes towards purchasing resources for the Mother & Toddler Group.

During school holidays, the Mother & Toddler Group regular arranges outings to parks, theme parks, soft play areas and other venues suitable for the children in our group. There is an annual picnic at Tatton Park which has always been a great success, and which we hope to continue for many years to come.

Please attend our group. Everyone is welcome, and we would love to see you!

Frequently Asked Questions.
Here are some common questions about AHMA

Can anyone attend?

Yes.  Everyone is welcome to attend Little Hands Mother & Toddler Group.

Is there a waiting list in operation?

No.

Do I have to attend each week?

No.  Attendance at the group is entirely voluntary and you are free to attend regularly or on an ad hoc basis.

Do I have to give advance notice of my intention to attend?

No.  There is some merit, however, in notifying the group co-ordinator of your intention to attend and leaving contact details as occasionally the Group does not go ahead and you can be warned in advance of any such cancellation.

How will I know if the Group has been cancelled?

If you leave your contact details with the group co-ordinator, you will be notified of any cancellations as soon as practicable.  The Group also uses social media to communicate in respect of a wide range of issues.

Am I able to leave my child at the Mother & Toddler Group?

No.  Parents/carers must remain with their child(ren) throughout, and remain responsible for ensuring their safety during the entirety of the session.

Testimonials

I was welcomed with smiles and flowing conversation when I first came to the group (I needn’t have been nervous about going to a playgroup where I didn’t know anyone!).  My little boy loves the group and I’ve met some lovely mums! I would recommend the group to all!!!!

A child and parent friendly atmosphere with the opportunity to make friends in the local community.

The little hands group is a fun, socially stimulating environment for both my little girl and me as a mother.  In an area where many toddler groups are expensive but also take place in hard floor halls it is nice to visit a clean comfortable carpeted mosque area for our children to play and interact.  Meeting local Muslim mothers has been great for me being new to the area.

I first attended Little Hands in 2011 when my daughter was just 6 weeks old.  Being relatively new to the area I was looking for a warm and stimulating environment for my daughter, but also a place where I could meet other parents, and hopefully make new friends.  I was not disappointed.  My daughter thoroughly enjoys attending Little Hands and I have forged lifelong friendships.  We still attend regularly almost three years later, and I am sure my 9 month old will benefit in the same way.

I am so glad that I came to know about the mother and toddler group as soon as I moved to Manchester.  All the parents are extremely helpful and friendly and I have been given and continue to seek a wealth of useful information with regards to schools, homes, nurseries, baking, tailors!  My little girl looks forward to meeting and playing with other kids in a clean, safe and spacious environment.  Long may it live!

I started bringing my daughter to the playgroup at the masjid when she was 14 months old after reading about it on the AMA website.  It gave my daughter a safe and fun environment to play in and gave me the chance to talk to other mums and make new friends in the area.  During the summer months the playgroup is held at parks, and trips are arranged to theme parks so it is great fun for the children.  My daughter started school 6 months ago but I still attend the playgroup regularly as I enjoy going.  I am very grateful to the playgroup as I have made very good friends who I will keep for life InshaAllah.
